Sometimes, no matter how hard you
try (too hard perhaps?) the ideas and words just don't
materialise. Sometimes, too many words pour out and you don't know where or what
to edit.
If the tips below don't work, call me!
Mind-Map - Be childlike. Start every project with a big, colourful mindmap where
anything
goes! Add the power of teamwork - the combined energy of several brains working
in a
fun atmosphere is unbeatably creative.
Think about the psychology behind the words - write with the outcome firmly
in
mind - think backwards! What emotions are you trying to evoke with your words,
what
would motivate YOU - put yourself in your client's shoes - what's on their wish
list?
Humble is good - Ask for feedback. When you
think you've finished, ask a few objective colleagues to proof read and provide
feedback (or ask a copywriter to review what you've produced). Avoid proof-reading
your own work because if you've made a mistake, you're quite unlikely to spot
it!
Edit, edit and edit again - Less is more. We
all have way too much reading material to plough through on a daily basis so
avoid irritating people with wordy copy. Get the message across swiftly,
make the call to action urgent.
The
never-ending job -
If a project has been hanging around for too long or has been 'tampered
with' by many pens, it may be time to call in an objective outsider
for a fresh injection of ideas, and a swift
conclusion! Don't
agonise over it, just pick up the phone...
